Bahman Tahayori

NIF Scientist | Plant Imaging

Bahman is a National Imaging Facility (NIF) Plant Imaging Scientist at the University of Melbourne, working with the ARC Centre of Excellence in Plants for Space (P4S). He holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Melbourne and has extensive research experience in biomedical imaging, MRI physics, computational modelling, and artificial intelligence.

His current research focuses on adapting advanced imaging technologies, including ultra-high-field MRI, PET/CT, and X-ray CT, to study living plants non-destructively. His work includes imaging root structures, plant–soil interactions, water and nutrient transport, and metabolic processes. He also develops quantitative imaging methods and AI-based analysis tools to extract meaningful biological information from complex imaging data.

By bringing together expertise in imaging physics, engineering, and plant science, his research aims to improve our understanding of plant physiology and support innovations in sustainable agriculture, food security, and plant production for future space missions.
