Karen Lindsay

Queensland NIF Node Facility Fellow

Karen Lindsay is an accomplished nuclear medicine scientist with over a decade of clinical experience. She has worked across a range of public health institutions, including The Princess Alexandra Hospital, The Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, and The Queensland Children’s Hospital.

For the past five years, Karen has served as the Lead Research Nuclear Medicine Scientist at the Herston Imaging Research Facility (HIRF), where she has made contributions to molecular imaging research in both oncology and neurology.

Her research portfolio includes involvement in cardiology, oncology and neurology imaging trials including several first-in-human clinical imaging trials. She also has an interest in translational science in which clinical trials with positive results are translated into patient cohorts e.g., implementation of radioactive I-125 seeds to replace hook-wires to localise breast lesions prior to surgery.

A key area of Karen’s expertise lies in the development of imaging protocols for investigator-led PET imaging studies. She is engaged with ARTnet, qualifying imaging equipment at HIRF to a nationally coordinated standard, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, reproducible, and consistent PET imaging data across multiple sites.

She continues to work to advance research in PET imaging, with a focus on improving the clinical application of molecular imaging technologies.
