Help shape the future of imaging research infrastructure – Survey closes 19 March

The Department of Education is seeking input to inform Australia’s 2026 National Research Infrastructure Roadmap. A national survey is open until 19 March to gather insights on research trends and inform infrastructure needs over the next 5–10 years.

This is an opportunity to ensure that imaging capabilities — which underpin critical advancements in health, science, and industry — are recognised in future infrastructure planning.

Investment in Australian imaging research infrastructure is critical to:

  • Strengthening Australia’s world-leading community of imaging experts and users
  • Keeping Australia at the forefront of research infrastructure for imaging
  • Facilitating the translation of research to benefit national health challenges and the broader economy
  • Generating valuable imaging data collections that answer important medical research questions

Imaging is a critical enabler of research across disciplines—driving medical advancements that improve patient outcomes, from biomedical discovery and precision medicine to testing new medical treatments and developing innovative therapies. Beyond health, imaging supports advanced materials, industrial applications, agriculture, and environmental science, as well as the preservation and analysis of cultural, museum, and physical collections. This is an opportunity to ensure that Australia’s imaging infrastructure is well-positioned to support research and deliver impact across these fields over the next decade.

Your voice matters. This is your opportunity to help shape the future of Australia’s research infrastructure by:

  • Advocating for the role of imaging in shaping Australia’s research future
  • Identifying key infrastructure capabilities that will be essential over the next decade
  • Ensuring diverse perspectives from across the imaging community are represented – particularly across research and industry
