MRgFUS capabilities refer to MRI-guided systems that allow delivery of focused ultrasound energy in humans and small and large animals. The two main approaches are: (1) heating pinpointed regions in deep brain tissue to create a small therapeutic lesion, (2) low-frequency energy coupled with microbubbles can transiently open the blood–brain barrier to deliver therapeutic agents. These approaches can be used to treat neurological diseases and disorders (including essential tremor, Parkinson’s disease, neuropathic pain and dementia).
