The NIF team is excited to release more information about the upcoming 2026 Annual Scientific Meeting, hosted in Newcastle by the HMRI Imaging Centre.

The ASM venue for all 3 days is now confirmed as the heritage-listed Newcastle City Hall, which is soon to turn 100 years old and was designed by prominent architect Henry White.

Four gold and two silver sponsors so far will be supporting the ASM, with more to come. NIF will be proud to release the names of our generous sponsors shortly.

In May, the ASM organising committee will open its call for abstracts for Power Pitches and posters, so we encourage you to think about your submissions – given that the best Power Pitch and best poster could win you a significant prize of $500 each.

The research presented by our wider imaging community at the symposium is what generates the collaborations and networking that are an essential feature of the ASM. We encourage all NIF users, community members, NIF Scientists and others to prepare to submit an abstract.

As in 2025, we will include poster presentations, and have taken onboard the important feedback from last year so that everyone attending can have more time with the posters.

Event highlights

  • Explore emerging breakthroughs in imaging, diagnostics, and translational research that advance understanding of brain cancer, alongside cutting‑edge neuroscience imaging that reveals new insights into brain structure, function and the mechanisms shaping behaviour and cognition.
  • Discover the latest developments in preclinical imaging, molecular probe design, and theranostic strategies that are accelerating the translation of discovery‑level research into clinical impact.
  • Engage with imaging research and partnerships that prioritise culturally informed, community‑led approaches to improving health outcomes for First Peoples.
  • Connect and collaborate through expert‑led sessions, interactive workshops and meaningful networking opportunities designed to foster knowledge exchange across our imaging communities.

Community workshop and meeting submissions will open to the imaging community in May; you will receive an email about how to submit.

Registration to attend the ASM will open in June, and we will do a special LinkedIn and newsletter announcement at that time.

The organising committee is working hard to make the ASM a valuable networking, learning and collaborative event for all attendees, new and experienced. We look forward to seeing you there.

Keep up to date with the elements of the program as they are announced here. Reminder: attending the ASM is free for everyone.
