The National Imaging Facility has announced the appointment of Dr Elane Zelcer to its independent Governing Board.
The independent Governing Board provides oversight and strategic guidance for all NIF activities and investments, supporting NIF’s objective to address Australia’s strategic science and research priorities, benefit Australian industry and help keep Australians healthy.
Dr Zelcer brings significant capabilities in the health technology sector, particularly for guiding research teams about the intersection between research and business. She uses her extensive knowledge and experience to assist research-based organisations and early-stage companies in developing novel, value-added health–tech products.
Her directorial and advisory roles span scientific advisory board, executive management, management consulting, biotech and medtech start-ups, including AllergyPal, BioMelbourne Network, Access Capital Ventures, and La Trobe University’s Breakthrough Victoria Eagle Fund. She is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and in 2017 was awarded Monash’s Faculty of Science Distinguished Alumni Award.
NIF Governing Board Chair Professor Margaret Harding congratulates Dr Zelcer on her appointment.
“Dr Zelcer’s appointment will significantly contribute to NIF’s goals of translating impactful research, especially our support for moving research through to practice in the health system, product development or commercialisation,” Prof Harding says.
The Governing Board also sincerely thanks outgoing Board Member Dr Erol Harvey for his extensive work throughout his tenure. Dr Harvey joined the Board in June 2019.

Dr Elane Zelcer is a leader in the health technology sector. She has significant experience advising and guiding research teams, start-up and early-stage companies and spin-outs in relation to commercialisation and capital raising, including risk management and governance. Elane’s focus is the intersection between the research sector and business. She uses her knowledge and experience to assist start-up/early-stage companies and their founders, as well as research-based organisations developing novel, value-add healthtech products. Elane’s career spans director, scientific advisory board, executive management, management consulting, biotech and medtech start-up founder and research roles. She is a Director of AllergyPal Pty Ltd and BioMelbourne Network, venture partner with Access Capital Ventures, and a member of the Investment Committee for La Trobe University’s Breakthrough Victoria Eagle Fund.
