2nd Australian UK Biobank Research Symposium

The 2nd Australian UK Biobank Research Symposium will be held in-person from 11 February to 13 February 2026, at The University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia.

Symposium Goals

Showcase a unique data resource available to scientists around the world, through the presentation of cutting-edge research across multiple disciplines.

Foster and reinforce scientific collaborations between users of UK Biobank data in Australia/Asia Pacific region.

About UK Biobank

The UK Biobank is a prospective study and trail-blazing research resource of 500,000 individuals from the United Kingdom with dense health, lifestyle, genomic, imaging and biomarker data. It is longitudinal and continuously growing in data richness. The UK Biobank currently has about 3,500 ongoing research projects from Principal Investigators around the world.

Invited Speakers

We are delighted to have a number keynote speakers from the University of Oxford:

  • Professor Sir Rory Collins FRS, CEO of the UK Biobank, who will give the opening presentation (virtually)
  • Professor David Hunter AC, Richard Doll Professor of Epidemiology and Medicine and Director, Translational Epidemiology Unit, and previously Chief Scientific Advisor of the Our Future Health research programme
  • Professor Naomi Wray FAMS FAA, Michael Davys Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Professorial Research Fellow at the Big Data Institute, whose work focuses on psychiatric and complex trait genomics.
  • Dr Jason Torres, senior genetic epidemiologist in the Clinical Trial Service Unit & Epidemiological Studies Unit (CTSU), who is leading genetic analyses of the Mexico City Prospective Study
  • Dr Sam Morris, a Nuffield Department of Population Health Early Career Research Fellow in genetics, working with the China Kadoorie Biobank

In addition to their talks, the Symposium will have contributed talks (selected from submitted abstracts) and posters.

Training Modules

The Symposium will be preceded by Training Modules on Monday 9 February (from mid-day) and on Tuesday 10 February, where participants will learn how to navigate the UK Biobank data resource and RAP platform and how to perform large-scale analyses in epidemiology, genomics and imaging.
